5. Eligibility and Selection

Entry into the UQ Young Scholars Program is by competitive selection and an application does not guarantee a place in the program.

To be eligible for the Young Scholars Program, applicants must be:

  • enrolled in Year 11;
  • ATAR eligible or undertaking the International Baccalaureate (IB), and;
  • intending to pursue university studies on completion of Year 12.

To ensure diversity in the program and to allow each student to make their special contribution, the selection panel will choose nominees from a wide range of schools, backgrounds and interest areas. To ensure this diversity, a limited number of students will be selected from each school.

Selection will be based on:

  • academic excellence;
  • leadership achievements; and
  • the significant contribution students have made to their school or community.

Students from educationally disadvantaged or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Fee waiver and travel bursaries are available to assist students who otherwise would not be able to participate in the program.

If successful in being selected for the UQ Young Scholars Program, students and their parents/guardians will be asked to formally accept this place by agreeing to the Program's Terms and Conditions.
